Afternoon Tea Traditions

One of my favourite English traditions has to be that of a traditional afternoon tea. There is just something so grand and warming about this age old tradition that has me longing for more everytime.

It wasn’t my first visit to Netherstowe House in Lichfield and it certainly won’t be my last, but this impressive hotel in Lichfield has a lot to offer. Welcomed by name upon arrival might seem a trivial nice to have but it really makes you feel welcome and goes a long way to make you feel relaxed in the environment.

A hoast of finger sandwiches, pork pies, quiche and mini fish cakes start of what is a delightful afternoon treat. Followed by tarts, cakes, macaroons and scones this afternoon tea will most defiantly have something for everyone.

Not only are the staff extremely helpful and attentive they are very happy to accommodate any dietary requirements that you might have with little fuss.

I opted for a little lace number paired with simple accessories for this dainty afternoon tea affair.

Layering three ways

If you have been following me, you will know how much i love versatile and very wearable items in my wardrobe. Those that will see me through many an occasion, fashion forward but also a classic that will see me through the trends.

When searching for a coat, i can usually trawl the length and breadth of a high street in search of just the right style, shape and colour…it can be quite an overwhelming experience and often hard to find ‘the one’.

So as soon as i saw this delightful navy number i instantly fell in love and knew that this coat would be a staple for many seasons to come. A transitional piece in more ways than one, i find i am wearing this to battle through the ever changing Spring season.

This by far is the most versatile coat i have seen on the market with its three way wear you will be sure to continue re-styling this look to suit any occasion; whether it be a full coat, cropped jacket or sleeveless jacket.

Unfortunately they are no longer selling this coat, but keep your eyes peeled on their website as i hope that they bring out a similar design this Autumn/Winter.

A quintessential celebration

What could be more quintessentially British than a stay in the Cotswolds? A stay in the Cotswolds to bring in the new year of course.

Set in a tranquil village location, Buckland Manor is an elegant country house hotel with all the trimmings. From the roaring log fires, period interior, sumptuous food and the resident dog it is truly a home from home for the country bumpkin that I am.

And so we arrived on New Year’s Eve (feeling truly like VIP’s from the moment the car pulled up!) shown to our rooms and got ready for the long night of celebrations ahead. At 7.30pm all residential guests gathered in the cosy lounges to meet for a fabulous array of aperitif’s and champagne cocktails.

Then came the 7-course taster menu, complete with accompanying wine flight…it is safe to say we totally over indulged, but my it was totally worth it!

The evening didn’t stop after desert, following a fleeting relax in the lounge with coffee and yet more sweet treats we were invited to the terrace with a glass of champagne and a front row seat to the fantastic firework display.

New Years Day was filled with a visit to some of the local towns and villages before returning to the Manor House for yet more delightful food.

I could highly recommend this hotel for special locations, especially those looking for that real quintessential county living. As always i have included a direct link below:

New Year, Fresh New ME

If you are one of those looking for a ‘New Year, New Start’ mentality you might want to look away now!

Gone are my days of starting the new year with a brush the old under the carpet and start again attitude, instead i am going to for the very grown up approach (if i may say so myself) of just bettering the current me.

Why should you forget about the years that have built you into the person you are today? Good or bad, they make us stronger. Don’t loose sight of who you are, but have a fresh new approach to the year ahead and most importantly live life to the full.

For me, starting this blog is my way of fighting the conformity culture and just expressing some of what makes me happy, i hope that this will inspire a few others to simply be themselves and put the enjoyment of life first (Trust me you will thank me for it one day!).
